Police officers commonly face situations that put them at higher risk for injury. Identifying preventable risk factors for occupational musculoskeletal injuries provides the opportunity to decrease work-related injuries. The objectives of this study were to determine the incidence of musculoskeletal injury in the police officers of the Edmonton Police Service, to gain understanding of the patterns of injury occurrence, and to determine whether there are differences in physical fitness among police officers who become injured and those who do not.

This study conducted a comprehensive literature review to determine whether one approach - randomly choosing workers to be tested for alcohol and drugs - helps make workplaces safer, or whether there is not enough evidence to say. The study was funded by a grant from the OHS Futures Research Funding Program.
