Description

The Forum of Federal, Provincial and Territorial Ministers Responsible for Seniors has been working to address the social and economic impacts of ageism on older adults in Canada. This "What We Heard" report summarizes input received from the Forum-led roundtable consultations and stakeholder-led consultations. The input received during these consultations will inform a subsequent report that will propose approaches, initiatives, and strategies to address ageism in Canada.

On June 8th, 2021, the Federal, Provincial and Territorial Forum of Ministers Responsible for Seniors hosted a virtual stakeholder symposium on the future of aging in Canada. With help from national partner organizations, the Symposium explored four key themes: technology to support seniors aging in community; research and innovation in healthy aging; addressing and preventing elder abuse; and emerging best practices in supports for seniors and responding to social isolation.

Antineoplastic drugs (AD) used in treatment of cancer can present an occupational health hazard to healthcare workers causing adverse reproductive effects and increasing their risk of cancer. This report presents the findings of a large-scale exposure assessment study which focused on wipe-sampling of hard surfaces to determine the presence and level of AD residues in six representative cancer care facilities in Alberta and three in Minneapolis, Minnesota.

The objective of this report is to provide a synthesis of evidence regarding currently existing urgent care models and their effectiveness, with a focus on the following research questions: What models of delivering urgent care exist in Canada and other select countries with similar health systems? And how safe, effective, and economical are these urgent care models, and what factors contribute to the safety and/or effectiveness? In general, urgent care is defined as unscheduled health care offered, as part of emergency department care or in ambulatory settings, for acute lower-acuity conditions.

In this report, a conceptual framework of occupational health and safety vulnerability is applied to a sample of Alberta workers, and then compared with similar samples from Ontario and British Columbia. The vulnerability tool: captures information about workplace hazard exposures; measures the presence (or absence) of workplace resources that protect workers against injury; and provides an understanding of how workplace hazards and a lack of protections contribute to an individual worker’s risk of injury.
