Description

Presents the findings and advice of the Food Safety and Licensed Facility-Based Child Care Review Panel, which was established in response to the September 2023 E. coli outbreak in licensed facility-based child care facilities in Calgary linked to a shared kitchen. The Review Panel was tasked to examine food safety in kitchens that provide food in licensed child-care facilities across Alberta and make recommendations on how to better protect children in these settings.

The input received during these consultations will inform a subsequent report that will propose approaches, initiatives, and strategies to address ageism in Canada.

The overall goal of the study was to consider how to mitigate and prevent harm caused by workplace psychosocial hazards and explore if there are workplace hazards that may disproportionately impact ELL women workers.

A review of Alberta’s emergency medical services dispatch system was conducted to identify opportunities to improve the system and provide recommendations on strategies to implement changes with the goal of improving patient outcomes. The review included a comparison of the Alberta Health Services dispatch model with nine comparable systems from other provinces and other countries, as well as internal and external stakeholder engagement. Alberta’s government will be accepting all recommendations and is working on a plan of action to carry them out.

Presents findings of a study conducted to assess the impact of providing a high-fidelity implementation of a specific model of structured peer support for individuals in four integrated fire and emergency medical services departments. Public safety personnel who had previously participated in peer support reported greater perceived peer support skills and greater perceived value of peer support than those with no previous peer support participation. The evidence for peer support appears promising for supporting the mental health of public safety personnel.
