Earth tech (Canada) Inc. was retained by Alberta Environment to complete a study of the operating conditions at several water treatment plants within the County of Vermilion River. As well, several models were developed that could be used to provide regional or intermunicipal cooperation for the operation and maintenance of drinking water supply systems. The study includes a series of recommendations and two memoranda of understanding that will assist in the development of an operator consortium.

This study details the situation at several water treatment plants within rural Alberta and develops several models that could be used to provide regional or intermunicipal cooperation for the operation and maintenance of their drinking water supply systems. The study includes a series of recommendations and two memoranda of understanding that will assist in the development of an operator consortium.

Presents long-term forecasts for population and water demand (withdrawals and consumptive use) to assist with water management planning in the South Saskatchewan River Basin. The major water use categories quantified are municipal, industrial, stockwatering, other agricultural (non-irrigation) and water management. (Water management uses include licensed projects involving lake stabilization, remediation and flood control.) The study was commissioned as part of the South Saskatchewan River Basin water management review.
