This is the first regional study to be conducted about demand for local food in Alberta. It focused on Census District 6, which includes the City of Calgary and the immediately adjacent region, including Airdrie, Cochrane, Okotoks, High River, Olds and other towns and villages in the region. Topics covered in the study include: consumer awareness, market value, market profiles and the growth potential of local food market channels; top local food items; gaps in the supply of local food items/attributes; production attributes and other motivators that attract consumers to local food; barriers to consumer support for local food; and consumer perceptions of food and agriculture issues.
