The purpose of Directive 2024-02 is to direct the determination of Timber Management Regulation (TMR) Section 95(2) amounts assessed by the director when timber is cut, damaged, or destroyed under authority granted by the Crown in right of Alberta, other than a timber disposition.

They constitute the methods used to implement decisions made in forest management plans and other higher-level plans such as integrated resource plans. Ground rules establish practices that minimize the chance of negative effects from timber harvesting and forest management operations and activities.

This addendum outlines Forest Management Plan-specific ground rules which apply to area outlined in Forest Management Agreement 7500020. These rules are in addition to the Alberta Timber Harvest Planning and Operating Ground Rules 2023. Where a rule in the Addendum and a rule in the Provincial OGR relate to the same subject matter or objective, the rule in the Addendum governs. FMP-specific addendums are supplemental to the OGRs and will be negotiated with the applicable FMA holder where additional ground rules are needed to address specific strategies in an FMP or unique physical or non-physical landscape attributes.

The purpose of this directive is to clearly outline the requirements for reporting of forest operations by the forest industry to the Department. The intent is to make reporting expectations clear and provide certainty to both the forest industry and the Department. The directive also establishes a common understanding between the Public Lands and Forests Division (PLFD) and industry field staff that monitor forest operations to ensure expectations are clear regarding interpretation of field standards outlined in timber harvest planning and operating ground rules.
