Description

This Code of Practice is effective February 1, 2025. The Code provides details and requirements regarding the safe sales, handling, use and application of pesticides in Alberta to ensure environmental protection. Pesticide applicators, users, services and vendors affected by this Code must meet all its requirements to ensure their activities are in compliance with Alberta’s environmental laws. The Code applies to pesticide use in a variety of applications, including forest management, industrial vegetation management (roadside, powerline, pipeline and utility rights-of-way), structural pest control, fumigation, use within 30 metres of an open body of water, and mosquito control. The Code also provides the requirements and checklists for applicator and dispenser assistants.

The Act establishes the role of the Alberta government in managing public land. It sets out mechanisms by which rights in public land may be transferred by lease or sale. It provides for and defines the powers of the Minister and the Lieutenant Governor in Council with respect to establishing regulations to govern use and allocation of public land. The Act and its regulations also control public land use through the establishment of public land use zones, recreation areas and trails. The regulation supports the Wildlife Act in managing Alberta’s wildlife. It addresses: hunting, trapping, collection, and possession of wildlife, and adds protections for endangered animals; sale, import and export of wildlife, controlled animals (non-native animals that are regulated), and endangered species, and the possession of animals in captivity; identification and categorization of wildlife species and controlled animals; permits - many species of wildlife and all controlled possessed live animals require permits. Permits are required for the import, export, research, wildlife rehabilitation and falconry, and for commercial activities such as outfitting and guiding, buying fur, taxidermy, tanning and zoos; wildlife damage to property; and wildlife sanctuaries and other special areas where wildlife are protected from the activities of humans.
