This fact sheet explains the powers and responsibilities outlined under the APA's prevention and control measures, and describes measures that should be taken to prevent and control the spread of the disease.

A rapid, effective, timely response to a DED finding is in keeping with the requirement of the Agricultural Pest Act (APA) since DED and elm bark beetle are named declared pests.

Description

The results of a two-year project to inventory elm trees in Alberta cities, towns, villages and hamlets were published in March 1999, and included an assessment of the value of the elm trees in each community surveyed. The survey was updated in 2017 to reflect an updated inventory for many communities and an updated methodology to assess the value of the trees. The data from the 2017 elm inventory includes the number of trees in each municipality and their approximate value.
