Description

A municipal inspection has been conducted for the municipality of Crowsnest Pass following a request from the residents to inquire into the conduct of the CAO, adminstration and mayor and council. This report draws attention to areas of deficiencies discovered by the inspectors during the course of the inspection and makes a number of recommendations for governance, administration and financial areas of the municipality.

Description

Bear Smart programs have been adopted and implemented in national and provincial parks across Canada. To initiate this program in Alberta, ABSP is launching a pilot project in the Municipality of Crowsnest Pass in southwestern Alberta. As a first step in this initiative, ASRD hired the Miistakis Institute to conduct a preliminary bear hazard assessment. The goal of the assessment is to identify sources of human and bear conflict in the Crowsnest Pass. The assessment provides a general overview of the community specific attractants and practices that contribute to human bear conflict. It also provides direction of initial steps for the community to become "bear smart" as well as identifying important information gaps.
