Environmental Impact Assessment and associated applications pertaining to the proposed Teck Resources Limited Frontier Oil Sands Mine.The project consists of the construction, operation and reclamation of an oil sands surface mine with a production capacity of about 260,000 barrels per day of bitumen. The project is a truck and shovel mine which includes one open pit, an ore preparation plant, a bitumen processing plant, tailings preparation and management facilities, cogeneration facilities, support utilities, disposal and storage areas, river water intake, a fish habitat compensation lake, bridge, roads, airfield and camp.

Description

The regional planning process set out in the Alberta Land Stewardship Act provides for directly-affected Albertans to request a review of a land-use plan. The Government of Alberta received six requests for review of the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan Review (LARP). A panel was appointed to consider these requests for review and provide recommendations to the Government of Alberta on whether each of the six applicants is directly and adversely affected by either a specific provision or provisions in the Lower Athabasca Regional Plan. This report, released in June 2015, presents the findings and recommendations of the panel.

Environmental Impact Assessment and associated applications pertaining to the proposed Birch Mountain Resources Ltd. Hammerstone Project (limestone quarry and quicklime plant). The proposal is for an expanded limestone quarry with a footprint of approximately 1500 hectares, a quicklime plant, cement plant and associated facilities for reclaiming the spent lime and reclamation of gypsum. The project location is in the Regional Municipality of Wood Buffalo, approximately 60 km north of Fort McMurray. The EIA was deemed complete in 2008. Environmental Impact Assessment and associated applications pertaining to the proposed Petro-Canada MacKay River SAGD Expansion Project. The proposal involves the expansion of the existing commercial project and is based on steam assisted gravity drainage (SAGD) thermal technology to increase by 40,000 barrels per day to a total of 73,000 barrels per day. The approximate location is 50 km northwest of Fort McMurray in the Municipality of Wood Buffalo. This EIA was deemed complete in 2007.
