Description

This regulation repeals four municipal investment regulations (Investment Regulation, Major Cities Investment Regulation, Muni Funds Investment Regulation, and MuniSERP Investment Regulation) and consolidates them into one regulation (the Municipal Investment Regulation). In addition to those investments authorized under section 250 of the Municipal Government Act, this regulation provides additional investment opportunities for municipalities, with some specific provisions for the cities of Calgary, Edmonton, and Medicine Hat, as well as for the Alberta Municipal Services Corporation

Description

This regulation establishes the Rivers District Area as a community revitalization area, and allows the city to place a community revitalization levy against any incremental assessment growth for the 20 year duration of the regulation, on properties within this District. The program provides a tax subsidy to the municipality in the form of education property taxes. The regulation sets out the assessment and tax framework for implementing the community revitalization levy. The revenue raised by this levy is used to pay for public infrastructure, servicing and other costs associated with the revitalization.
