A worker was standing on a flat deck, guiding a winch line. The load slipped, causing the winch line to move and strike the worker. Presents the findings of an investigation into a workplace fatality in the wholesale and retail trade sector that occurred in June, 2014. A worker was servicing his personal vehicle at his employer’s service shop. While under the vehicle, the worker was using a pry bar to move the front end back and forth and the stand supporting the truck frame on the driver side toppled. Presents the findings of an investigation into a workplace fatality in the construction and construction trades sector that occurred in Calgary in November, 2014. Workers on a road-building project were in the process of installing a liner into a sewer line. Workers attempted to open a pneumatic clamp mechanism that had been secured with a ratchet strap. Another labourer entered the mechanism of the installation unit, and just as he entered the ratchet strap released, resulting in the labourer being struck in the head by the clamp mechanism. An apprentice heavy duty mechanic was working to troubleshoot lights on a vibrating drum packer. The mechanic fell out of the packer while exiting. When he fell, the packer moved forward and the rear left tire ran over the mechanic, causing fatal injuries. Presents the findings of an investigation into a workplace fatality in the public administration education and health services sector that occurred in August, 2012. A peace officer following up on a dog/land use complaint had an altercation with the tenant, who overcame peace officer and put him in the back of his patrol vehicle. The tenant transported the peace officer to a Calgary Police Service station where he was found to be unresponsive. The tenant was criminally charged by CPS.
