The Ghost Stewardship Monitoring Group, with representation from industry, agriculture, recreational users of the area, environmental groups, and the local community, and working with Alberta Sustainable Resource Development, works to ensure reasonable access to all recreational and industrial users of the Ghost Forest Land Use Zone, while minimizing the environmental impact of this use. This annual report includes a section entitled "recommendations and report cards."

Description

The report is organized into two parts. Part one contains brief technical summaries of methods used to establish instream flow needs determinations in the South Saskatchewan river basin that provide for full protection of the aquatic environment. The purpose of summarizing these techniques within the following document is to provide a basis for the methodology used to evaluate impacts from alternative flow management scenarios. The second part of this document then explains the impact ratings methodology and demonstrates its application using example flow management scenarios applied to seven reaches of the Red Deer River.

A workshop was held June 28 and 29, 2005 in Hinton, Alberta, with the SWG and SeSP. The Panel and SWG reviewed 16 formal presentations in addition to previous written submissions. Some additional information was provided to the Panel over the following several months. After a thorough review of the information presented to them, the Panel submitted their final report on September 30th, 2005 and the chair, Jack F. Klaverkamp, presented those findings at the April 2006 SWG meeting

CWD is a chronic degenerative and ultimately fatal disease of cervids (primarily deer and elk). It has the potential to eliminate local cervid populations and is considered a significant threat to deer populations in Alberta. The specific goal of the program was to limit disease transmission by reducing deer densities in the vicinity of CWD-positive deer. Guiding principles for the program were safety of staff and the public in conjunction with effective and efficient shooting of deer with minimal disturbance to lanholders and local residents.

Description

Ambient air quality objectives are established as part of the Alberta air quality management system. The purpose of this assessment report was to provide a review of scientific and technical information to assist in evaluating the basis and background for an ambient air quality objective for benzene. Benzene is a clear, colourless, volatile, highly flammable liquid with a sweet aromatic odour. It is primarily derived from petroleum and used in the manufacturing of chemical intermediates and as an additive in gasoline.
