The West-Central Caribou Sub-regional Task Force was one of three task forces established in November 2019 to develop recommendations to inform the development of sub-regional plans to support caribou recovery in Alberta. The task force included representatives from First Nations, Métis groups, municipalities, environmental non-governmental organizations (ENGOs), the forest industry, the energy industry, trappers, motorized recreation groups, and other land-users. This report presents the recommendations made by the task force to inform the development of a sub-regional plan for the Upper Smoky sub-regional area.

Description

This Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS) dataset describes the monthly Income Support caseload in Alberta, including two client groups: those Expected to Work (ETW) and those who have Barriers to Full Employment (BFE). Income Support provides financial benefits to individuals and families who do not have the resources to meet their basic needs, like food, clothing, and shelter. The caseload is defined as the number of households categorized as ETW or BFE during a specific reporting period. Most commonly, this is reported as the average volume for a specific period (e.g., annually).   The composition of the caseload is made up of single individuals, lone-parent families, couples with children and couples without children. This Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS) dataset describes the monthly Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) caseload in Alberta. The AISH program provides financial and health benefits to eligible adult Albertans with a permanent medical condition that prevents them from earning a living.   Caseloads are reported as the actual volume each month and by the Alberta government’s fiscal year. Depending on an individual’s situation, some AISH benefits may also be provided for a spouse or partner and dependent children.   Monthly caseloads are also shown as a portion of the entire Alberta population; and by gender, age, primary medical condition, family composition, employment participation and six service delivery regions across the province.   For locations of AISH delivery regions, choose the Alberta Seniors, Community and Social Services Regions Map within the Resources section.

In Canada, governments support charitable organizations mainly in two ways: direct funding grants and indirect support though the tax system. Registered charities can issue tax receipts to their donors who can then claim tax credits against their tax payable when filing their annual income tax returns. This report provides statistical information on the charitable donations of Albertans, broken down by geographical location, age, gender, and marital status of the donors, and by tax year of the donation. The report is based on Canada Revenue Agency personal income tax data for the period between 2012 and 2022.

This Conference Board of Canada report finds that the federal government is not on track to reach net-zero greenhouse gas emissions under its 2030 Emissions Reduction Plan and that any emissions reductions achieved are expected to come with significant economic costs including lower employment, higher consumer prices, a lower GDP, and lower Canadian oil and gas production. Given the importance of the oil and gas sector to Alberta’s economy, the Conference Board of Canada anticipates Alberta will be disproportionately impacted by the policies in the federal plan. Alberta would experience a deep recession in 2030 and would subsequently experience slower economic growth. Jobs would be lost, incomes would decrease and government revenues would decline.
