Slaughter waste consists of butcher scraps and byproducts (e.g., trimmings, organs such as liver, heart, and lungs, etc.) that can be sold or otherwise provided as bait. The info sheet also includes information on the portions of the carcass that cannot be used as bait.

This info-sheet provides the requirements for co-ownership of large live animals from an on-farm slaughter operation (OFSO). A large animal, such as bison, beef or elk is one that weighs more than 227 kg (500 lbs). Ownership of the large live animal is transferred when the OFSO sells the large live animal, to a maximum of four individuals, prior to slaughter. The transfer of ownership to the four individuals must be arranged prior to slaughter as the sale of uninspected meat remains illegal in Alberta.
