Description

This study delineates flood hazard areas and determines design flood levels along Wolf Creek and an unnamed tributary through Lacombe. The study area includes an almost 9 km reach of Wolf Creek and approximate 2 km of tributary stream length. The design discharge for Wolf Creek is 36.4 m³/s downstream of Highway 2, 40.1 m³/s upstream Highway 2 and at Highway 2A and 29.7 m³/s upstream of Highway 12. The design discharge of the tributary is 13.3 m³/s. The study was prepared in June 1996. Flood information available after study completion may not be reflected in the current flood hazard study report or flood hazard mapping.

Livestock producers can use winter cereals to produce pasture in the same year that it is needed. Winter cereals can supplement perennial pasture or increase the carrying capacity of a livestock operation. Winter cereals are the first choice for growing annual pasture because seed is readily available and the crop is easy to establish. The best cereals to use are fall rye, winter wheat and winter triticale. They may be fall seeded and fall grazed, or overwintered and grazed in the spring. Winter cereals may also be seeded in the spring and used in the year of seeding.

This publication is a guide for red clover seed production. Keep in mind local conditions and your experience as a producer when using this information. Red clover is a short-lived perennial. The two types of red clover grown in Canada are late flowering single-cut cultivars and early flowering double-cut cultivars. In the single cut cultivars, seed is produced only in the second and subsequent years. Single-cut cultivars are hardy and are usually grown in the parkland area of the prairies and in the northern areas of British Columbia and Alberta. Double-cut varieties are not as winter hardy.
