This submission outlines Alberta's concerns regarding the federal government's amendments to the Competition Act resulting from Bill C-59, the Fall Economic Statement Implementation Act, 2023. In it, Alberta identifies significant flaws in the amendments, negative impacts to costs, investment, competitiveness, and regulatory certainty, as well as duplication of legislation and regulations Alberta has in place that ensure accurate and supported environmental reporting. The submission supports Alberta's position that the amendments add new barriers, impede progress to achieving environmental outcomes, and encroach on provincial jurisdiction.

The Landscape Connectivity indicator quantifies the amount of undisturbed landcover and its configuration on the landscape across the province of Alberta. The intent of this indicator is to measure and track connectivity of three broad habitat types (Upland Forest, Lowland Forest and Grass-Shrub) compared to the state of the landscape in the absence of human footprint (reference condition).

Historical data collected through the Alberta Atmospheric Deposition Monitoring Program were evaluated to understand the current state, long-term trends, annual and seasonal variability at select atmospheric deposition stations. Concentrations of ions in precipitation from seven stations distributed throughout the province were evaluated over 2011 to 2020. Concentrations measured were also compared to those measured in other jurisdictions.
