Description

This Regulation designates facilities for detention and treatment of formal patients under the Mental Health Act and prescribes 27 forms to be used under the authority of the Act. These forms relate to admission and renewal certificates, orders to return and transfer patients, warrant and warrant extensions, peace officer statements, competence, review panels, and community treatment orders.

The amendments are contained within the Health Statutes Amendment Act (HSAA) tabled on May 14, 2024, and which received royal assent on May 30, 2024. The HSAA enables the transition from a single regional health authority to an integrated system of sector-based provincial health agencies. This ministerial order initiates the transition to a refocused health care system.

The Continuing Care Act regulates the full spectrum of continuing care services and settings in Alberta, including continuing care homes, supportive living accommodations, and home and community care. The Act establishes authority and oversight for licensing, accommodations, and the delivery of publicly funded health care in the continuing care system. It includes requirements for licensing, compliance and enforcement actions, and appeals. The Act repeals the Nursing Homes Act, Supportive Living Accommodation Licensing Act, Long Term Care Information Act, and Resident and Family Councils Act.
