DISCLAIMER - Current ATCO Gas data is available up to 2019 as-builts only. This dataset represents all rural low-pressure pipelines (less than 700 kPa) in Alberta under the jurisdiction of the Gas Distribution Act which include Gas Co-ops, First Nations, Counties, Private Systems, Apex Utilities, and ATCO Gas and is based on annual submissions of as-builts to Rural Utilities, Alberta Alberta Affordability and Utilities. The attributes of the pipelines contain the contact info, plus the status of the pipelines as being either Active or Abandoned. Rural Utilities assumes no responsibility as to the accuracy or completeness of these plans, Individual distributors must be contacted for actual locations of their pipelines. For pipelines located in Indigenous Lands, please contact the applicable Band Administration Office or the gas distributor for that area. Rural Utilities Gas Franchise areas are created and maintained by Rural Utilities under the authority of the Gas Distribution Act. It contains the following layers: Apex Franchise Areas, ATCO Franchise Areas, Coop Franchise Areas, County Franchise Areas, Independent Franchise Areas, Community Gas Distributors and Customer Meters. “Changes to boundaries are based on a) additions or deletions of lands under the Gas Distribution Act and b) annexations or dissolutions under the Municipal Government Act.” Franchises cannot be issued for federal lands. However, the gas distributors serving these lands are under the authority of the Gas Distribution Act. Please Note: Rural Utilities assumes no responsibility as to the accuracy or completeness of these plans, Individual distributors must be contacted for actual locations of their pipelines. This historical map series consists of the Planimetric Series printed monochrome maps named using the National Topographic System (NTS) map sheet identifier within Alberta. The Planimetric Series base maps were initiated in 1949 and derived from aerial photographs taken during the years 1949 to 1952. These maps display: Alberta Township System (ATS) - hydrographic features - provincial highways - roads - pipelines - transmission lines - municipalities. These maps are not available as GIS-ready data. All available maps are provided in Adobe PDF and TIF format. To obtain the TIF format, please contact the distributor. Geo-referenced PNG files are also available for most maps. Please note that the coverage for the province is incomplete and it is not known if further coverage will be added.

The Planimetric Series base maps were initiated in 1949 and derived from aerial photographs taken during the years 1949 to 1952. These maps display: Alberta Township System (ATS) - hydrographic features - provincial highways - roads - pipelines - transmission lines - municipalities. These maps are not available as GIS-ready data. All available maps are provided in Adobe PDF and TIF format. To obtain the TIF format, please contact the distributor.
