Description

A student cohort is a group of students who are registered in a specific grade at a public, separate, Francophone, charter, provincial, federal or accredited private school. Service regions are defined areas of the province that provide a framework for better understanding local factors relating to learning and programming at a regional level. In consultation with stakeholders, regional boundaries were drawn based on Dissemination Area (DA) boundaries and the area generally served by Comprehensive Community Institutions.

Every two years, Advanced Education commissions a survey of post-secondary graduates in order to collect information that will inform strategic planning and results reporting regarding graduate demographics, satisfaction, financing of education, outcomes, and changes over time. This report presents the findings of the survey of 2017-2018 academic year graduates from credit parchment programs from publicly-funded post-secondary institutions, excluding the Banff Centre.

Alberta’s International Education Strategy: A Post-Secondary Approach to Attracting and Developing Global Talent was developed in collaboration with stakeholders to ensure the province has a pipeline of global talent to support the provincial economy for decades to come. The strategy includes key actions government will undertake to support Alberta’s international education sector.

This includes policy direction on institutional roles, mandates, relationships with each other, with government, and to some extent with their communities. The framework differentiates the publicly-funded post-secondary system in Alberta into six sectors and assigns each of the 26 publicly-funded institutions to one of the sectors, providing descriptions of the programming, research and collaboration mandates of each sector.

Every two years, Advanced Education commissions a survey of post-secondary graduates called the Graduate Outcomes Survey, to collect information that is used to inform strategic planning and results reporting by the Province and by post-secondary institutions. This report presents the findings of the survey of 2015-2016 academic year graduates from publicly funded post-secondary institutions, and 2016-2017 academic year graduates from private vocational training institutions. The report also includes findings of the second Employment Success Survey, which surveys supervisors of employed graduates of publicly funded post-secondary institutions, to acquire information about the skills and knowledge of recent publicly funded post-secondary institution graduates and to what extent they match the types of skills and knowledge that employers require in employees.
