On October 23, 2015, the Government of Alberta recognized the City of Calgary for its efforts towards creating an age-friendly community for residents. Age-friendly communities promote healthy and active aging. People in age-friendly communities are supported in maintaining their independence, and can access public buildings and amenities, participate in community events and initiatives, and acquire the supports and services they need.
