Class Protocols provide guidance on conducting wildlife research of particular types. In order to obtain a research permit, researchers are required to follow class protocols or provide detailed rationale to request an exception. The newly developed Class Protocol for Ord’s kangaroo rat provides guidance to researchers and government on capture, handling and marking as well as conservation translocations of this endangered species.

MULTISAR is a program focused on multi-species conservation at the landscape level that promotes stewardship through voluntary participation of landholders on both Crown and private lands. The program is a collaborative effort among landholders, Alberta Conservation Association, Alberta Environment and Parks, and the Prairie Conservation Forum. The primary goals of MULTISAR are to implement collaborative strategies to manage multiple species on a defined working landscape and to assist with their implementation. This report summarizes MULTISAR's accomplishments in 2016-2017 in its three primary program areas; habitat conservation strategies; education, outreach and awareness; and research, monitoring, and evaluation.

Recognizing the diversity of industrial activity on the landscape, this document is intended to provide government regulatory agencies and industry with a comprehensive set of principles and guidelines for all industrial activity in native grassland landscapes. Many of the principles are requirements for development on public lands, as stated in the standards and conditions of public lands formal dispositions, authorizations and approvals. These principles and guidelines are also appropriate and applicable to other land holders for the promotion and advancement of avoidance and minimal disturbance practices.

The Native Prairie Vegetation Inventory (NPVI) Polygons is a quarter section-based vegetation inventory that covers the southern part of Alberta. The native prairie is defined in the Native Prairie Conservation Action Plan as an area of unbroken grassland or parkland dominated by non-introduced species, and an area of previously broken grassland that has reverted back to natural vegetation (30 to 60 years). The Native Prairie Vegetation Inventory extends beyond the Grasslands Natural Region to include data for adjacent areas, such as the Cypress Hills. In addition to the Grassland Natural Region, the Native Prairie Vegetation Inventory (NPVI) Polygons include areas that belong to the Foothills Parkland, Central Parkland, Montane, Dry Mixedwood Boreal and Lower Foothills Natural Subregions.
