Description

This dataset is a digital representation of the Land Use Zones delineated in 'A Policy for Resource Management of the Eastern Slopes (Revised 1984).” There are 8 land use zones classified in the Eastern Slopes Region, falling under either one of the 3 broad areas of zoning: Protection (Prime Protection and Critical Wildlife), Resource Management (Special Use, General Recreation, Multiple Use and Agriculture) or Development (Industrial and Facility). The digital data was created based on paper maps of various scales and bases, in conjunction with digital files obtained from regional staff that were available. The horizontal positional accuracy of the layer is of +/- 500 metres. No attempt was made to check any zoned areas where discrepancies were not apparent.

This data collection contains the boundaries of the planning zones within the Livingstone-Porcupine Hills area. These datasets contain polygons representing the Planning Zones (Zone 2 – Enhanced and Zone 3 – Extensive) for both areas, as well as the Watershed Analysis Units of which there are seven (7) in the Livingstone PLUZ and three (3) in the Porcupine Hills PLUZ. For more detailed information, see the Livingstone-Porcupine Hills Land Footprint Management Plan (2018) and the detailed metadata for each individual dataset.

The Cold Lake Sub-Regional Plan Spatial Data dataset contains spatial data that can be used for planning as described within the Cold Lake Sub-regional Plan (2022). Sub-regional plans are Alberta's approach to supporting caribou recovery through careful land-use planning which recognizes and maintains working landscapes supporting a variety of social, economic and traditional land-use. The Caribou Sub-Regional Plan Boundaries dataset contains boundaries delineating the extent of sub-regional planning areas across northern Alberta. Sub-regional planning areas include those for the approved Bistcho Lake and Cold Lake sub-regional plans, as well as the following upcoming planning areas: Upper Smoky, Wandering River, Berland, Chinchaga, Slave Lake, Wabasca, Richardson, Red Earth, and Caribou Mountains. This dataset is a subset of the Hydrologic Unit Code Watersheds of Alberta which is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset. The study area used in the report 'Land use, climate change and ecological responses in the Upper North Saskatchewan and Red Deer River Basins: A Scientific Assessment' encompasses the Upper North Saskatchewan River Basin and part of the Upper Red Deer River Basin.
