These maps display: Alberta Township System (ATS), contours (50m intervals), major hydrographic features, municipalities, major roads, railways, and select geo-administrative features (parks, reserves, etc.).

This digital dataset is the compilation of an analysis of the in situ stress regime in several regions of Alberta and northeastern British Columbia conducted by Dr. Sebastian Bell under a contract with the Alberta Geological Survey from 1999 to 2004. The dataset includes both new and previously published estimates for vertical stress gradients, minimum horizontal stress gradients, and stress orientation. Understanding the state of stress in the subsurface has always been important in the development of energy resources. The recent development of unconventional oil sand and low permeability hydrocarbon deposits, waste fluid disposal, greenhouse gas sequestration, and potential geothermal energy extraction all require knowledge of the state of stress to operate safely and economically. Description

The dataset contains the results of analyses of surface water samples collected by AGS in the summer of 1999. Three lakes, three creeks, one stream and two rivers were sampled as part of a water sampling program carried out by AGS in the Athabasca Oil Sands in-situ area of Alberta. This area extends from approximately 55.34 degrees north latitude to 55.96 degrees north latitude, and 110.5 degrees west longitude to 111.8 degrees west longitude. The datum is NAD83. The dataset contains information on laboratory measured pH and conductivity, major, minor and trace element concentrations, as well as stable isotope ratio values of oxygen and hydrogen. AGS staff collected the samples using a discrete sampling method. The sample bottle was dipped into the surface water body and partially filled with water, rinsed and the water was discarded. This GIS dataset depicts an estimate of average annual groundwater recharge in the Edmonton-Calgary corridor based on hydrological water budget analysis using climate and hydrometric data from Environment Canada, the Water Survey of Canada, and Alberta Environment and Sustainable Resource Development. This average annual groundwater recharge grid was generated to assist in building steady-state numerical groundwater flow models for large regions within the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor.

This GIS dataset depicts the drift thickness in the Edmonton-Calgary corridor based on water-well litholog data and bedrock outcrop locations. We used well data from an internal Edmonton-Calgary corridor geological mapping database. This thickness map was generated to assist in building a geological model for the region. The sediment thickness was generated by subtracting the bedrock topography surface from the 60 m Shuttle Radar Topography Mission v. 2 digital elevation model.

This polygon dataset is part of the three-dimensional (3-D) hydrostratigraphic model of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin in the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor, central Alberta. This dataset provides the areal distribution of greater than or equal to 0.60 net-to-gross sandstone values for the Paskapoo Formation - Upper Composite Slice, defined by an analysis of normalized oil and gas well digital gamma-ray logs to produce discrete slices of net-to-gross sandstone distribution within the Paskapoo Formation. The zonated Paskapoo Formation - Upper Composite Slice is in ESRI shapefile format for input into a groundwater flow model. This dataset supplements Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Open File Report 2014-10, which includes a full description of the steps taken to produce the dataset.

This dataset is part of the three-dimensional (3-D) hydrostratigraphic model of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin in the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor, central Alberta. It represents the structure top of hydrostratigraphic unit (HSU) S2, which contains coarse-grained material found in upland areas and discontinuously overlies buried valleys, as intradrift sand or terraces adjacent to and underlying present-day streams, rivers, and lakes in the Neogene-Quaternary succession of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin. This dataset supplements Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Open File Report 2014-10, which includes a full description of steps taken to produce the structure grid.

This grid dataset is part of the three-dimensional (3-D) hydrostratigraphic model of the Sylvan Lake sub-basin in the Edmonton-Calgary Corridor, central Alberta. It represents the structure top of the Paskapoo Formation, which is the bedrock surface in the Sylvan Lake sub-basin. The Paskapoo Formation is a highly heterogeneous system. To satisfy the needs of a groundwater flow model, internal characterization of rock properties was necessary to partition the formation into three distinct geological domains. The Upper Composite Slice is the uppermost of these three domains. Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Open File Report 2014-10 includes a full description of the process used to produce this structure grid.
