The purpose of this booklet is to provide a statistical overview of irrigation information and data relating primarily to the irrigation districts situated in Alberta, but also includes information about irrigation across the whole province. The majority of the annual data is provided by the irrigation districts.

Description

Stormwater ponds are artificial structures that are critical components of stormwater management systems in many Canadian cities. They serve to prevent flooding of urban areas during excess rainfall. Stormwater ponds also contribute to environmental health by allowing the settlement of dirt and solids from stormwater to the bottom of the pond. As a result, the sediments of stormwater ponds can become enriched with potentially harmful contaminants. The health risks posed to anglers by contact with stormwater and sediments and consumption of fish from stormwater ponds are not well characterized. The City of Lacombe (Alberta) is a municipality with two stormwater ponds stocked with sterile fish for angling. Alberta Health collected water, sediment and fish from these two ponds over two seasons (fall 2010 and spring 2011) and analyzed the samples for a suite of contaminants. Description

In 2014, the Economics Branch of Alberta Agriculture and Forestry (AF) in collaboration with the Alberta Greenhouse Growers Association (AGGA) conducted a comprehensive survey to update the “Profile of the Greenhouse Industry in Alberta” 2010 report with 2014 data. The project was funded by Growing Forward 2, a federal-provincial-territorial initiative. The report provides current benchmark data on greenhouse crop operations in Alberta. This includes size, distribution in different regions within the province, heating systems, water and energy use trends, labour, as well as opportunities and issues related to financing, environment, business climate and regulation, competitiveness with imports, and other benchmarks and future trends.
