Description

The Community Economic Development Corporation Tax Credits Regulation supports the administrative process for the Alberta Community Economic Development Corporation Tax Credit under the Investing in a Diversified Alberta Economy Act. The regulation also specifies the business activities that are eligible for the tax credit and provides formulas for calculations that are referenced in the Act. The regulation also provides maximum amounts that can be received by a small business and community economic development corporations. The schedule to the regulation sets out sections 6 to 28 of the Investing in a Diversified Alberta Economy Act, with modifications for the purpose of applying these provisions to community economic development corporations.

Description

The Northern Alberta Development Council Act establishes the Northern Alberta Development Council and provides that the mandate of the Council is to investigate, monitor, evaluate, plan and promote practical measures to foster and advance general development in northern Alberta, and to advise the Government accordingly, and without limiting the generality of the foregoing, the Council may investigate the requirements of the people resident in northern Alberta and make recommendations in that regard in respect of (a) social and economic development, (b) development of communities and service delivery, and (c) development of government services and programs. The Minister of Jobs, Economy and Northern Development is accountable to the Legislature for the operation of the Council.

Description

The Promoting Job Creation and Diversification Act relates to the ministries of Jobs, Economy and Trade; Advanced Education; and Transportation and Economic Corridors. Under the Act, the Minister of Jobs, Economy and Trade may establish panels and committees in relation to Alberta’s economic prosperity, and establish programs and make regulations to support economic diversification. The Minister of Advanced Education is required to take steps to increase the number of technology-related seats in post-secondary programs, take steps to establish new scholarships or awards, consult with interested parties, and report annually to Executive Council on progress. The Minister of Transportation and Economic Corridors is required to prepare a strategic plan and investment strategy in support of unmanned aerial systems, and submit the report to Executive Council.

This regulation is made under the Mines and Minerals Act to encourage companies to invest in the development of new Alberta petrochemical facilities. The regulation authorizes the Minister of Energy to establish royalty credits for the consumption of methane or propane, and permit approved petrochemical facilities to trade their earned credits with oil or natural gas producers to reduce their royalty payments.
