The guide is an educational resource to help senior-serving organizations increase awareness of LGBTQ2S+ seniors’ issues and needs and identify concrete actions organizations can take to be more inclusive and affirming. This guide is for any organization that works with seniors as volunteers, staff, clients, residents or participants. This includes seniors’ centres and associations, community outreach and frontline service providers, and housing providers.

This guide introduces an overarching approach for accountable and effective information sharing that supports program design and delivery in the social-based services sector. It is intended for decision-makers, information and privacy practitioners, policy development staff and program advisors, and legal advisors in government programs and services, health care organizations, contracted service provider agencies and other community agencies. It is recommended this guide be used with the companion Information Sharing Toolkit to understand how to operationalize information sharing best practices. Description

The Seniors' Home Adaptation and Repair Act gives authority to the Minister of Seniors and Housing to provide low-interest home equity loans to help seniors finance necessary repairs, adaptations and renovations to their homes. A maximum loan of $40,000 is available to seniors and senior couples with an annual total income of $75,000 or less and who have a minimum of 25 per cent home equity in their primary residence. If it is determined that a senior is ineligible for a loan, the Act authorizes the Minister to consider the applicant for a grant to help cover some basic and essential home repairs.

It also outlines factors that need to be considered in making decisions about how and when information about a senior can be shared, if elder abuse is suspected.
