The Way Forward is a comprehensive plan to advance the Indigenous Primary Health Care's Advisory Panel's recommendations, respecting diverse well-being definitions within Indigenous communities. The plan centres Indigenous voices, avoiding tokenistic practices, and adopting trauma-informed, person-centered perspectives and acknowledges the diverse health needs within Indigenous communities. It is committed to increasing life expectancy and overall health, involving community input and respecting cultural protocols while prioritizing culturally safe and holistic healthcare, honoring Indigenous expertise and traditions. Designed as a living document that will be updated to reflect evolving Indigenous health and Alberta's healthcare system.

The Swan Hills Treatment Centre (SHTC) is a facility for the safe disposal of special wastes located approximately 12 km northeast of the town of Swan Hills, AB. On October 16, 1996, a malfunction of a transformer furnace was discovered to have caused the release of a portion of process gases containing polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs), polychlorinated dibenzo-p-dioxins and dibenzofurans (PCDD/Fs) into the ambient air. These chemicals can be harmful to human health. Therefore, in 1997 Alberta Health (AH) conducted a human health risk assessment study to estimate human exposure and to evaluate the effectiveness of public health interventions. As a result of the study, food consumption advice for wild game and fish taken within a 30 km radius of the facility were issued out of concern that PCBs and PCDD/Fs were accumulating in these locally caught foods. This document summarizes what was heard from participants and presenters during the Indigenous Primary Health Care Innovation Forum, held in Edmonton on January 10 and 11, 2023. The purpose of the forum was to discuss current challenges in Alberta's primary health care system for First Nations, Métis and Inuit peoples, and to identify innovative solutions from other jurisdictions to address these challenges. Results of the forum will also inform inform the Indigenous Primary Health Care Advisory Panel's final report to the Minister of Health.

The Indigenous Lake Monitoring Program (ILMP) was developed in response to Indigenous communities’ concerns about the quality of lakes of local importance as well as the Community-Based Monitoring & Knowledge teams’ mandate to explore opportunities to work together with Indigenous communities to advance environmental stewardship. The ILMP aims to support and enable stewardship and management of Alberta’s lakes based on the best available Indigenous and scientific knowledge. From 2016-21, staff from CBM&K, Watershed Sciences and Watershed Monitoring units within the Airshed & Watershed Stewardship Branch worked with community technicians from four First Nations (Bigstone Cree Nation, Cold Lake First Nations, Whitefish Lake First Nation, Dene Tha' First Nation) to collect and report on water chemistry, physical measurements, and biological samples on seven lakes in Northern Alberta. The Indigenous stream of the Program supports the development of continuing care spaces for Indigenous peoples in Alberta, increasing continuing care capacity for Indigenous populations on or off reserves or on or off Metis Settlements. Documents in this package include an outline the application process, a guide with information to assist applicants in the preparation and completion of the business case application form, and the application form itself.
