Description

The purpose of the Northern and Regional Economic Development Program is to enhance economic conditions and leverage regional resources to build capacity for sustainable economic development and diversification. It provides an opportunity for communities to work with partners to identify and allocate resources to a promising area of regional economic development. This guidelines document explains the intention of the program, what entities are eligible to apply, and when applications will be accepted, and describes the types of projects that are eligible to apply. It also describes the application process, how applications are assessed, and the parameters around funding for successful applicants.

Presents nine recommendations made to the government by the Métis Women's Council on Economic Security in 2017, and the related government responses to the recommendations. Recommendations cover the child intervention system, safety for Indigenous women, support for Indigenous people transitioning to urban centres, Indigenous tourism, social justice, collaboration in the development of government programs and services, and entrepreneurial and employment opportunities resulting from the legalization of cannabis. The Council was established in 2013 to provide advice and recommendations to the Government of Alberta on strategies to improve the economic security of Indigenous women in Alberta.

The First Nations Development Fund grant program is a Government of Alberta lottery grant program available exclusively to First Nations band councils in Alberta. It was developed by First Nations and the Government of Alberta as part of the Government of Alberta's First Nations Gaming Policy and is supported by a portion of revenues from government-owned slot machines located in First Nation casinos in Alberta. First Nations in Alberta can apply to the program for economic, social and community development projects that clearly benefit their First Nations members. First Nations who access the grant funding have signed a grant agreement with the Government of Alberta.
