This review summarizes the findings of seven recent health technology reviews on metal-on-metal hip resurfacing (M-MHR). Specifically, this review assesses findings pertaining to the appropriate clinical indications for M-MHR, its safety, efficacy/effectiveness, cost and cost-effectiveness, and patient outcomes of M-MHR.

Photoselective vaporization of the prostate (PVP) for the treatment of benign prostatic hyperplasia (BPH) was introduced in approximately 2004 in North America. Although the diffusion of the KTP laser, used for PVP, has been quite limited in Canada, there is growing interest among some urologists and provincial governments. This report reviews the safety, efficacy and effectiveness of PVP compared to the existing "gold standard," transurethral resection of the prostate (TURP), and consider the potential social, fiscal and economic factors involved in providing PVP as a funded service.
