This manual was written as a reference guide for tuberculosis screening, diagnosis, prevention, treatment and community follow-up. It describes Alberta’s tuberculosis control program and protocols, standards and recommendations for the management of TB in Alberta, as required under the Alberta Public Health Act, Communicable Diseases Regulation.

A Health Action Plan for Alberta was announced by the Minister of Health and Wellness in April 2008. A key component of this plan is the development of a pharmaceutical strategy. A consultation process was implemented to meet key stakeholders, summarize their comments, and make key recommendations. Meetings were held with 16 stakeholder groups representing patients, physicians, pharmacists, employers, benefit providers, and the pharmaceutical industry. Written submissions were also welcomed. This document summarizes the stakeholders input and presents 10 recommendations for the government to implement.
