Alberta whitebark pine, a slow-growing, long-lived species which grows in the high mountain forests of western Alberta at treeline and in upper subalpine forests, is listed as Endangered in Alberta. The goal of this recovery plan is to conserve existing populations and habitat while restoring populations of the Alberta whitebark pine across its current and historical provincial range in sufficient numbers to continue functioning in its ecological role. The plan provides background information on the Alberta whitebark pine, describes the threats facing the species, outlines proposed strategies to address these threats, and presents an action plan that lists priority actions required to maintain and restore the species.
