Through this bilateral funding agreement, the federal government is investing $627 million over five years, from 2023-24 to 2027-28, as part of a 10-year plan for funding and collaboration. This funding will help accelerate efforts already underway to transform continuing care in Alberta, as described in Alberta's five-year action plan.

Alberta Health and Wellness released a new continuing care strategy, Aging in the Right Place, in December 2008. One of the initiatives identified in this strategy was the development of a health technology roadmap which would inform the Government of Alberta about the current state of continuing care health technology and expected changes to this technology over the next 10 to 15 years.
