Description

The Affordable Housing Asset Management Framework supports asset management and decision making for government-owned affordable housing assets. It serves as a companion document to Stronger Foundations: Alberta’s 10-Year Strategy to Improve and Expand Affordable Housing. The framework is intended to provide transparency and clarity to stakeholders on how the Alberta Social Housing Corporation will manage assets to achieve goals and outcomes, including criteria for asset sales, transfers, retention and investment.

The Government of Alberta has developed an approach to asset management, as required under the terms of the Canada-Alberta Gas Tax Fund Agreement. Asset management processes allow municipalities to manage infrastructure in a planned and integrated manner to maximize value to the community. The Alberta approach, which has been approved by Infrastructure Canada, is envisioned in two phases over seven years as outlined in this fact sheet.

The purpose of these tools is to provide a low-barrier path to municipalities to build foundations of asset management practices and thinking. Asset management practices should be tailored to suit an organization, so these tools should be used as guidelines or support where needed – not as prescribed approaches that must be conformed to.
