Description

The Petroleum Industry Incident Support Plan (PIISP, the plan) is the provincial-level plan whichdirects Government of Alberta (GoA) operations in supporting a local authority, a licensee or an operator during an emergency. It is intended solely for provincial departments/agencies. This plan may be used for any area of the petroleum industry where the Energy Resources Conservation Board (ERCB) has jurisdiction.

This report discusses and analyzes the benefits of utilizing enhanced oil recovery (EOR) as a means of accelerating the wide scale implementation of carbon capture and sequestration (CCS) in Alberta. It examines the short- and long-term economic benefits of EOR and CCS in Alberta as a way of unlocking Alberta's resource and industrial potential. Challenges are highlighted, and specific opportunities for action to address those challenges are identified. The report begins with the conclusion of the Energy Resource Committee, followed by its 13 Recommendations for action.

Description

In 1987 a detailed inventory of NOx sources was completed for the province, as part of the Acid Deposition Research Project (ADRP). This project included identification of the source and technology, location, and estimation of emissions. In 1988, Informational Letter 88-5 (IL 88-5) was jointly issued by the Energy Resources Conservation Board (now the Alberta Energy and Utilities Board) and Alberta Environment. For the first time in Alberta, this document required the use of low NOx technology for reciprocating engines. In December 1992 the CCME issued the National Emission Guidelines for Stationary Combustion Turbines, which applied to new turbine engines. It is desired that the penetration of the technologies prescribed in these Guidelines and other low NOx technologies be determined for Alberta.
