The bull trout, the provincial fish of Alberta, is a native species that occurs in all of the major river basins of the province. It has been designated a Species of Special Concern because of the declines in distribution and abundance, as well as continued threats from habitat alteration and introduced competitive species. This plan provides background information on the species and outlines a set of objectives and management actions to help meet the goal of restoring and maintaining viable, self-sustaining bull trout populations throughout the majority of the species' historic range in the province, and to once again provide some measure of harvest opportunity for the species.
