Description

This report on a soil survey of Yohon National Park provides a basic overview of some of the natural resources in the park, describes the methods used during the survey, provides brief descriptions of pedon morphology and site characteristics, and identifies the limitations of various land areas for selected uses. Appendices provide detailed specific information of interest to the in-depth reader. The survey was initiated at the request of Parks Canada as part of a systematic inventory of the natural resources in Canada's national parks.

Contains the results and conclusions of a soil resource inventory of Elk Island National Park, in the form of a written report and accompanying soil map. The text includes a general description of the area, the survey and analytical procedures employed, generalized descriptions of soil units and interpretations of soil characteristics for selected park uses. The soil map is presented on a photo base at a scale of 1:25,000, with interpretative overlays showing water erosion hazard and soil drainage classes.

This report describes the Tawatinaw area in east-central Alberta, making reference to its physiographic features, parent material, and vegetation. A brief review of soil formation is included as background material to a discussion of the classification system and how it relates to this area. Soil characteristics are related to their use and management. Each soil series mapped is discussed in turn, giving its characteristics, distribution, and land use considerations. The appendix includes contributions from individuals in other disciplines who have conducted studies in this area. A soil and topography map, as well as a soil rating map, form an integral part of this report.
