The questionnaire provides linkages to capacity-building tools, offering easy access to meaningful opportunities to strengthen municipal performance where desired or necessary. Information on interpreting the results of the questionnaire, and determining next steps, is included at the end of the questionnaire.

This two-page information sheet provides a summary of the results of a public engagement process to explore amendments to the Local Authorities Election Act and Municipal Government Act which would enhance accountability and public trust in local elections and local elected officials. The public engagement was conducted by Municipal Affairs between June 29 to July 22, 2022 of municipal associations were also contacted to gather additional input. Description

In Alberta, equalized assessment is the means of comparing property wealth in a uniform manner for all municipalities. Alberta uses an ad valorem assessment and tax system where property taxes are based on wealth and wealth is measured by the value of property expressed as an assessment. Equalizing an assessment is simply a process of adjusting each municipality's taxable assessment to a common year in accordance with current legislation and policy. The equalization process results in a common provincial assessment base that is used to determine the amount of requisition for each requisitioning body.

The two programs were established to assist municipalities where taxes related to requisitioned amounts cannot be collected from property owners.
