This dataset is produced for the Government of Alberta and is available to the general public. Note that the distribution contact is different for the general public than for Government of Alberta ministries. Please consult the Distribution Information of this metadata for the appropriate contact to acquire this dataset. The Summer Village dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Summer Villages in Alberta. Summer Village is a municipality type defined under the authority of the Municipal government Act. The formation of a Summer Village can occur if a majority of the buildings are on parcels of land smaller than 1850 square metres and there is a population of 300 or more. Generally same provisions related to a Village apply to a Summer Village except that in the latter, elections and annual meetings are required to be held in the summer. This cartographic quality series of printable 1:2 000 000 scale colour maps cover the provincial extent of Alberta. The 1:2 000 000 scale maps are a generalized small scale version of the 1:1 000 000 scale map. The primary provincial base map displays the Alberta Township System (ATS), major hydrographic features, municipalities, major roads, and select geo-administrative features (parks, reserves, etc.). In addition to the primary provincial base map, this series includes various themes that overlay the primary base map. Refer to the 'time period of content' in the metadata record for currency of each map product. Each individual map sheet is provided in Adobe .pdf format. This series is generally updated on an annual basis.

Provincial Parks, Wildland Provincial Parks, Provincial Recreation Areas. Wilderness Areas, Ecological Reserves, Heritage Rangelands, Natural Areas. All acts and regulations will continue to apply including the Recreation Access Regulation that applies to agricultural dispositions. The boundary represents the external boundary of the pass area.

Description

The Phase 3 Forest Inventory Program commenced in 1970 and the initial data collection was completed in 1984 as per a 1966 federal-provincial task force recommendation that a provincial forest inventory should be completed before private company timber harvest quotas came up for renewal in 1986. The inventory was initiated by the Alberta Forestry, Lands and Wildlife Department and was intended to facilitate future forest management plans and the revision of annual allowable cuts. The extent of the Phase 3 Forest Inventory reflects the extent of Alberta's Green Area and fringe areas at that time minus three Forest Management Units in the north (A13, F10 and F20), the Cold Lake Air Weapons Range (L9), the Federal Indian Reserves and the Wilderness Areas. Under the Phase 3 Forest Inventory Program, the cover types were interpreted from aerial photography (mainly 1:15 000 black and white) to generate a hardcopy map base.
