Alberta Geological Survey created a coal and coalbed methane (CBM) database to capture and manage CBM data. The database compiles different sources and contains information on 7923 wells (15,200 formation picks, 37,357 coal picks, 495 coal analyses and 363 vitrinite reflectance measurements). From this parent dataset, individual coal zones were evaluated. This record describes the Taber Coal Zone's vitrinite reflectance.

The database compiles different sources and contains information on 7923 wells (15,200 formation picks, 37,357 coal picks, 495 coal analyses and 363 vitrinite reflectance measurements). This GIS dataset depicts a geostatistical model of the thickness of sediment overlying bedrock in Alberta. The sediment thickness surface was generated to assist the construction of a new geological framework for Alberta. The surface was derived by subtracting the bedrock topography of Alberta (Alberta Geological Survey Map 550) from the 60 m Shuttle Radar Topography Mission digital elevation model. These data comprise the raster surface of Alberta Geological Survey Map 551, Thickness of Quaternary and Neogene Sediment in Alberta, Canada.

This model is based on water-well litholog data, stratigraphic picks made on oil and gas petrophysical logs, data derived from digitized contour interpretations on bedrock topography maps, including bedrock outcrop locations and the 60 m grid-spaced Shuttle Rader Topography Mission digital elevation model. These data comprise the raster surface of Alberta Geological Survey Map 550, Bedrock Topography of Alberta, Canada.

Description

This GIS dataset is a compilation of existing surficial map information for Alberta tiled into one layer. It was an interim product to produce the generalized polygon dataset (Alberta Geological Survey DIG 2013-0002), which is suitable for presentation and use at 1:1,000,000 scale. We prepared the data by appending existing GIS datasets of each surficial map of Alberta into one provincial layer with a standard attribute table. Data sources included published Alberta Geological Survey and Geological Survey of Canada maps, one master's thesis, and ecological (biophysical) land-classification maps of the mountain parks. When possible, we transferred all of the legend data from each map source into the standard schema. As part of our 1:1,000,000-scale map project, we completed mapping the unmapped areas of Alberta at roughly 500,000 to 1,000,000 scale. This dataset includes those previously unpublished data. This GIS dataset is part of a digital compilation of the bedrock geology of NTS areas 72E, 72L, 73D, and 73E. It is one of the datasets used to produce Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) Maps 567, 568, 569, and 570. This dataset represents the compilation of existing geological maps and original geological mapping by AGS staff. Mapping included field observations and creating three-dimensional models of subsurface stratigraphy based on the interpretation of geophysical logs from oil and gas wells. Each three-dimensional formation surface was projected to a model of the bedrock surface, and the intersection formed the first approximation of the position of the geological contact at the base of the surficial deposits. We adjusted these preliminary contacts to honour outcrop data and the interpretation of the bedrock unit immediately below surficial deposits in individual wells. Description

This lithium ground- and formation-water geochemical dataset will enable present and future companies to better evaluate their targets and characterize their resource estimates by being able to distinguish between background and anomalous concentrations of lithium throughout Alberta. The dataset comprises lithium geochemical data from ground and formation water in Alberta and near the Alberta border. The data were captured from several databases, including those from Alberta Geological Survey (oil and gas wells database, AERI and Beaver River Basin projects), and the Alberta Research Council. In total there are 1,511 records, of which 48 records have >75 mg/L Li. Nineteen analyses have >100 mg/L Li (up to 140 mg/L) and occur within the Middle to Upper Devonian Beaverhill Lake Formation and Woodbend and Winterburn groups of west-central to northwestern Alberta. This dataset evaluates the sandstone-hosted uranium potential of Alberta. An Alberta Geological Survey database of oil and gas well logs were queried to identify wells with gamma values greater than 300 API (American Petroleum Institute units). An algorithm written for this analysis queried more than 48 000 gamma ray logs from more than 22 000 wells. Of those, 11 476 readings greater than 300 API, within the upper 500 metres, were found in 6176 wells. We selected 1318 wells, verified the anomaly and determined rock types using a combination of gamma, density and resistivity logs. This dataset is associated with Alberta Geological Survey Open File Report 2009-0012.
