The Council is mandated 'to investigate, monitor, evaluate, plan and promote practical measures to foster and advance general development in northern Alberta and to advise to Government accordingly' (Northern Alberta Development Council Act, 2000)

Alberta Environment and Protected Areas and the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI) jointly developed a Native Cover indicator for the province of Alberta. Native cover is defined as an area that is free of visible anthropogenic alteration (human footprint). There are two types of native cover: aquatic and wetland native cover (AWNC) and terrestrial native cover (TNC). AWNC represents the amount of aquatic habitat, including bogs, fens, swamps, marshes, open water, and riparian areas that are free of visible human footprint. while TNC represents the amount of upland (non-aquatic) habitat free of visible human footprint. Description

This Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS) dataset describes the monthly Income Support caseload in Alberta, including two client groups: those Expected to Work (ETW) and those who have Barriers to Full Employment (BFE). Income Support provides financial benefits to individuals and families who do not have the resources to meet their basic needs, like food, clothing, and shelter. The caseload is defined as the number of households categorized as ETW or BFE during a specific reporting period. Most commonly, this is reported as the average volume for a specific period (e.g., annually).   The composition of the caseload is made up of single individuals, lone-parent families, couples with children and couples without children. This Seniors, Community and Social Services (SCSS) dataset describes the monthly Assured Income for the Severely Handicapped (AISH) caseload in Alberta. The AISH program provides financial and health benefits to eligible adult Albertans with a permanent medical condition that prevents them from earning a living.   Caseloads are reported as the actual volume each month and by the Alberta government’s fiscal year. Depending on an individual’s situation, some AISH benefits may also be provided for a spouse or partner and dependent children.   Monthly caseloads are also shown as a portion of the entire Alberta population; and by gender, age, primary medical condition, family composition, employment participation and seven service delivery regions across the province.   To see a map with seven AISH delivery regions, choose the Alberta Seniors, Community and Social Services Regions Map within the Resources section.

The child intervention system is part of Alberta’s system of support for families that encourages good outcomes for children and youth.   Child intervention services are focused on the well-being of children, supporting families to be healthy, and ensuring children grow up in safe and nurturing homes. This Children and Family Services dataset provides an overview of the number of children and youth receiving post-intervention support through Transition to Adulthood Program (TAP) Agreements, by Indigenous status (Indigenous and Non-Indigenous). Young adults aged 18 to 24 who were previously involved with child intervention may be eligible for ongoing supports through TAP Agreements. This Children and Family Services dataset provides an overview of the number of children and youth receiving post-intervention supports through Transition to Adulthood Program (TAP) Agreements, by sex. TAP Agreements are available to young adults between the ages of 18 and 24 who were involved with child intervention services to help support them in fully reaching their independence. Support is most often financial, but may also include community supports along with the assistance of a caseworker.   The data shows the average monthly number of young adults in the province who are receiving post-intervention support through a TAP Agreement. More specifically, it shows the number by sex with historical information dating back ten years.   TAP was implemented in the 2022-2023 fiscal year, and fully replaces Support and Financial Assistance Agreements (SFAA).
