Typically, excavations into the ground that may trigger Water Act authorizations are dugouts, borrow pits, pits, or other pits/excavations. This guide does not address excavations that may be created for the purpose of drainage, flood control, erosion control, or channel realignment. Also not addressed by this guide is the issue of whether evaporative loss is considered a "diversion of water" under the Water Act.

The ferruginous hawk, a migratory bird of prey which occurs exclusively in North America, is listed as Endangered in Alberta. The Alberta Ferruginous Hawk Recovery Plan refines the long-term recovery goal for the species and identifies indicators of success to continue to implement recovery strategies and actions necessary for the recovery and conservation of ferruginous hawk in Alberta as outlined in the Alberta Ferruginous Hawk Recovery Plan 2009-2014. The goal of this recovery plan is to achieve a viable, self-sustaining ferruginous hawk population distributed across suitable habitat in Alberta's Grassland Natural Region through maintenance and/or enhancement of a functional prairie ecosystem. The plan provides background information on the ferruginous hawk, describes the threats facing the species, outlines proposed strategies to address these threats, and presents an action plan that lists priority actions required to maintain and restore the species.

Description

This dataset provides the point locations of horse bands as they were observed during annual aerial surveys. Equine Management Zones are surveyed using a helicopter and horses observed on the landscape during minimum count surveys are reported. Data is stored in file geodatabase, feature class format with associated attributes, meaning each point has a number of horses observed and age class. This dataset simply reports the horses counted on the landscape at one snapshot in time. This data also depicts the flight track flown during the annual aerial minimum counts. Surveys are flown by helicopter once per year when suitable conditions permit. Areas are typically flown by grid pattern within high density areas and over known horse locations.
