The West Bragg Creek trail network has been operated by the Bragg Creek Trails Association, in partnership with the Government of Alberta’s Forestry and Parks since 2010. Ten years after the completion of the first All Seasons Trail Plan (2010) for the area, Bragg Creek Trails Association and Alberta Forestry and Parks collaborated on updating the trail plan. The West Bragg Creek Trails Master Plan serves to maintain the area’s success as a hub for trail-based recreation and tourism supported by basic facilities while addressing increased visitation and growing visitor use conflicts and safety issues. This dataset is a spatial representation of the boundary for the Kananaskis Conservation Pass for which a written legal description will be created. Visit alberta.ca/ConservationPass or albertaparks.ca for more information about the Kananaskis Conservation Pass, including a map. The pass will be in effect for both parks and public land within this boundary, pending Bill 64, the Public Lands Amendment Act passing in the legislature. The area includes Parks, Recreation Areas, Public Land, and the Public Land Use Zone (PLUZ). It excludes the McLean Creek P.R.A., Fisher Creek P.R.A., and the McLean Off-highway Vehicle Use Zone. The Public Lands Camping Pass for random camping on the Eastern Slopes does not apply to public land in the Kananaskis Conservation Pass area.

The Resource Management Area (RMA) dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent the resource management areas of the 17 Integrated Resource Plans (IRP) - Subregional in Alberta. This dataset does not include the RMAs of Local IPR plans due to the resource restraint. Future enhancement of this data set to include Local IRP plans is feasible when resources are available. A Resource Management Area is an area identified within a Sub-Regional IRP plan for more detailed land and resource management intent on a landscape assessment. Generally, a Resource Management Area is characterized by an intent statement and detailed resource management objectives and guidelines. However, there are IRP plans which have their own specific RMA definitions. Plans include, Lakeland Sub-Regional IRP: A RMA is a geographic area of common resource management intent. Alberta Parks is proposing to redevelop several day use areas and a group campsite along Highway 40 between Canoe Meadows and Barrier Lake. These upgrades will address concerns regarding user conflict, ecological impacts, traffic congestion, and increased accessibility to this important water-based recreation destination. This project will also provide opportunities to address the diversity of uses in this area through stakeholder engagement to ensure facilities meet user needs effectively. This plan has been created to represent the ultimate build-out of this area. Alberta Parks recognizes that given ecological sensitivities and social carrying capacity, future facility development beyond this plan is not recommended. Comments will be collected on all aspects of this plan.
