This report is the result of a two-year project that reviewed research related to school attendance and truancy, and is intended to help school authorities in Alberta keep students engaged and attending school. The report focuses on the reasons students are at risk for non-attendance and provides effective prevention and intervention strategies to re-engage students. It also includes reflection questions that school leaders can use to help enhance staff understanding of issues behind student non-attendance.

To assist Alberta School Jurisdictions in successfully increasing their high school completion rates, Alberta Education has designed the High School Completion Strategic Framework around five areas for action: Student Engagement, Successful Transitions, Collaborative Partnerships, Positive Connections and Tracking Progress.
