Description

A Crown land reservation is a tool under Section 18(c) of the Public Lands Act, to identify a management intent that will inform and provide direction to potential land users and regulatory bodies as authorized under the Public Lands Act. A reservation is not a disposition, does not grant any rights to public land or rights to access or occupy public land or rights to the resources on the land or under it. The Crown Land Reservations dataset displays reservations under application or active with their associated data attributes allowing users to view and access existing or proposed reservation information that could influence their application if a proposed activity intersects. Description

This dataset provides the point locations of horse bands as they were observed during annual aerial surveys. Equine Management Zones are surveyed using a helicopter and horses observed on the landscape during minimum count surveys are reported. Data is stored in file geodatabase, feature class format with associated attributes, meaning each point has a number of horses observed and age class. This dataset simply reports the horses counted on the landscape at one snapshot in time. This data also depicts the flight track flown during the annual aerial minimum counts. Surveys are flown by helicopter once per year when suitable conditions permit. Areas are typically flown by grid pattern within high density areas and over known horse locations. The SCA Map of Alberta reflects the integration of inherent agroclimatic conditions that exist across Alberta with soil development, use and management practices. The SCA boundaries coincide to a large degree with recognized climate zones in Alberta. These boundaries also generally agree with accepted ecoregion boundaries. In the agricultural portion of Alberta, SCA's correlate strongly with soil zone lines with further subdivisions reflecting recognized agroclimate zones.

The Provincial Bison Protection Areas dataset is comprised of all the polygons that represent Bison Protection Areas in Alberta. In order to support the conservation, management and recovery of disease-free bison in northern Alberta, wood bison located within specified Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) are listed as Threatened under the Wildlife Act and Regulation. All hunting of wood bison within Northwest Bison Protection Area is regulated and based on issuance of a bison special licence and allocation processes for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous persons. All hunting (Indigenous and non-Indigenous) of wood bison within the Wabasca Bison Protection Area is prohibited. Legal descriptions of the boundaries of Provincial Bison Protection Areas can be found within Schedule 11 of the Wildlife Regulation. Description

The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory was initiated in 1949 and completed by 1956. The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory included all publicly owned forested lands in the province except Indian lands, national parks, and an area known as the Rocky Mountains Forest Reserve. The Phase 1 (Broad Scale) Forest Inventory was used to define lands suitable for agriculture, to determine timber harvest levels and plan forest protection and timber and industrial development. Through aerial photo interpretation, land was classified as productive, potentially productive, or non-productive. On productive forest land, homogeneous groups of trees were classified by 'cover types'. Cover types included crown density, height and tree species. Burned, harvested or cultivated land was identified as potentially productive. Non-productive lands included areas with organic soils, barren rock and lakes. No ages or site classes are associated with the polygons. The minimum polygon size was 65 ha....

Description

The NRN product is distributed in the form of thirteen provincial or territorial datasets and consists of two linear entities (Road Segment and Ferry Connection Segment) and three punctual entities (Junction, Blocked Passage, Toll Point) with which is associated a series of descriptive attributes such as, among others: First House Number, Last House Number, Street Name Body, Place Name, Functional Road Class, Pavement Status, Number Of Lanes, Structure Type, Route Number, Route Name, Exit Number. The development of the NRN was realized by means of individual meetings and national workshops with interested data providers from the federal, provincial, territorial and municipal governments. In 2005, the NRN edition 2.0 was alternately adopted by members from the Inter-Agency Committee on Geomatics (IACG) and the Canadian Council on Geomatics (CCOG). The NRN content largely conforms to the ISO 14825 from ISO/TC 204.
