Presents results of an aerial survey for moose conducted between February 22 and 25, 2023. The survey was conducted in Wildlife Management Unit 526, in northwestern Alberta. The survey objective was to update the moose and deer population estimates, sex ratios, and age class ratios, as well as obtain a total minimum count for elk in WMU 526.

This georeferenced map shows the boundaries of the Northwest Bison Protection Area in northern Alberta. Wood bison located within specified Wildlife Management Units (WMUs) are listed as Threatened under the Wildlife Act and Regulation, including the Hay-Zama and Etthithun Lake populations. In order to support the conservation, management and recovery of disease-free bison in northern Alberta, all hunting of wood bison within Northwest Bison Protection Area is regulated and based on issuance of a bison special licence and allocation processes for both Indigenous and non-Indigenous persons. The forest management planning area under consideration is FMA 0200041 allocated to Manning Forest Products Ltd. (formerly known as Manning Diversified Forest Products Ltd.). The FMP Forest Management Unit P20 located in northwestern Alberta within the Upper and Lower Peace Land-Use Framework planning regions; it fall within the Upper Boreal Highlands, Lower Boreal Highlands, Dry Mixedwood and Central Mixedwood Natural Subregions.

The details of where, when and how trees on Crown land in Alberta are harvested and managed for sustainability are contained in forest management plans approved by the Government of Alberta, with input from the public and other stakeholders. Forest management plans prepared by industry are a requirement of Forest Management Agreements (FMA) negotiated between the Government of Alberta and forest companies. Forest management plans provide direction for sustainable management of forest resources. The forest management planning area under consideration is FMA 0200040, allocated to Tolko Industries Ltd., Norbord Inc., and La Crete Sawmills Ltd. The FMA area is located in northwestern Alberta; it falls predominately within Central Mixedwood, Lower Boreal Highlands, and Northern Mixedwood natural sub-regions. The FMA area is located within the Lower Peace Land-use Framework planning region.

The dataset contains the results of geochemical analyses of rock samples from the Bad Heart Formation, Clear Hills region and Smoky River region (northwestern Alberta) collected by Alberta Geological Survey from 2004 to 2007. The data comprise elemental analyses of 325 rock samples, including ooidal ironstone, ooidal sandstone, sandstone, siltstone, shale, Bad Heart rubble and till, and conglomerate.

Geochemical analytical data are reported for 123 Cretaceous rock samples from northwestern Alberta collected by Alberta Geological Survey (AGS) staff from 2001 to 2005. The values for one repeat analysis are included (5602R), making a total of 124 analytical records. The results include analyses of 57 mudstone, 29 shale, 13 ironstone, 6 pyrite (float), 5 kimberlite (including one till clast) and 5 sandstone (including one bioclastic sandstone) samples. Geochemical analyses were performed by Acme Analytical Laboratories Ltd. of Vancouver, British Columbia, for a wide range of elements and oxides using the following analytical methods. (a) Method 1EX: four-acid (HF-HNO3-HClO4-HCl) digestion and inductively coupled plasma atomic emission spectrometry (ICP-AES) and inductively coupled plasma mass spectrometry (ICP-MS) multi-element analyses. Description

This lithium ground- and formation-water geochemical dataset will enable present and future companies to better evaluate their targets and characterize their resource estimates by being able to distinguish between background and anomalous concentrations of lithium throughout Alberta. The dataset comprises lithium geochemical data from ground and formation water in Alberta and near the Alberta border. The data were captured from several databases, including those from Alberta Geological Survey (oil and gas wells database, AERI and Beaver River Basin projects), and the Alberta Research Council. In total there are 1,511 records, of which 48 records have >75 mg/L Li. Nineteen analyses have >100 mg/L Li (up to 140 mg/L) and occur within the Middle to Upper Devonian Beaverhill Lake Formation and Woodbend and Winterburn groups of west-central to northwestern Alberta. Description

Cultural resource management survey of a proposed pipeline corridor stretching across uplands to the southeast of Grande Prairie resulted in the discovery of the Smuland Creek site. Preliminary subsurface testing yielded the proximal portion of a basally thinned (fluted) projectile point and a graver artifact, both diagnostic of earliest prehistoric times in the Peace Region of Alberta and British Columbia. Further survey yielded additional evidence for prehistoric occupation. The new discoveries present preliminary evidence for early human presence in the region that may be associated with older, upland glacial lake features. The merits of this hypothesis are examined and the implications for Palaeoindian site prospection in the Peace Region are discussed.

This wildlife status report looks at brassy minnow, which is found in is three disjunct subpopulations in Alberta: The Milk River drainage in southeastern Alberta; Musreau Lake in the Peace River basin in northwestern Alberta; and in the Athabasca River near Ft. McMurray in northeastern Alberta. This report is part of the Alberta Wildlife Status Report series, which provides comprehensive summaries of selected wildlife species intended to be useful to those managing populations of species and their habitats, and to help identify species that may be formally designated as endangered or threatened.
