Government’s LGBTQ2S Youth Homelessness Working Group developed the LGBTQ2S Youth Housing and Shelter Guidelines to improve the inclusion of LGBTQ2S homeless youth. Included in this document is a glossary of terms, a sample gender-inclusive intake form, and an exercise for assessing personal bias.

Description

The Government of Alberta released “A Plan for Alberta: Ending Homelessness in 10 Years” in March 2009 which set out 17 strategies to meet the goal of ending homelessness by 2019. Strategy 15 of the Plan calls for simplification of personal identification requirements for accessing programs and services. In April 2009 a cross-government committee was formed to develop measures to implement Strategy 15. The committee developed two new processes designed to increase access to government-issued photo identification for the homeless by overcoming two of the barriers the homeless most frequently face when trying to access identification: having proof of an address and verifying their identity. This booklet is designed to train agencies serving the homeless how to use the new processes to help their clients access identification. It also includes important information on Alberta government-issued photo identification and on how to acquire other types of identification.

The program is intended to reinvest revenues generated from provincial lotteries in communities, to empower local citizens, and community organizations to work together and respond to local needs.This program is funded by the Government of Alberta through the Alberta Lottery Fund in order to build strong communities and enhance the quality of life for Albertans.
