In 2014 Alberta Agriculture and Rural Development released Alberta's Irrigation: A Strategy For The Future. The document included five key strategies which together laid out the department's blueprint for the future of the irrigation industry in Alberta. In an effort to manage and measure each of these strategies, an annual measurement and reporting of results was implemented.

Wind energy projects must be appropriately sited and well planned to avoid or minimize bat mortalities. The sites chosen for wind power developments due to favourable local meteorological conditions also appear to coincide with bat migration corridors, with turbine heights and numbers playing a significant role in bat fatalities. High rates of bat mortalities are concerning as bats are relative long-lived with low reproductive output rates, and the majority of bats killed by turbines tend to be reproductive adults.

Extensive tracts of foothills fescue grassland (the provincial grass of Alberta) within the landscape of southwestern Alberta have been lost due to agricultural crop production, industrial development, urban and rural infrastructure. As a result, a protective notation (PNT) has been placed on specified public lands known to include foothills fescue grassland. The purpose of the PNT is not to restrict development but to alert industry to the environmental and economic risk. This document serves as a supplement to the information letter designating the PNT.

A team of government agrologists, foresters and biologists, with the cooperation and support of the grazing and timber industries in the area, have developed a regional grazing plan for the Whitecourt-Edson area of west central Alberta. The boundary of the planning area was determined by the planning team and endorsed by the timber and grazing industries through the Regional Grazing Timber Advisory Committee. The plan boundary recognizes the existing demand for new grazing opportunities and the potential for future demand, and it includes all public land contained within the planning area.
