The NADC Area dataset is a polygon that represents the designated area of the Northern Alberta Development Council. a council established on March 29, 1963 by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The Council is mandated 'to investigate, monitor, evaluate, plan and promote practical measures to foster and advance general development in northern Alberta and to advise to Government accordingly' (Northern Alberta Development Council Act, 2000)

Description

Alberta Environment and Protected Areas developed an Interior habitat indicator for the province of Alberta. The indicator is the percentage area outside of a set distance from human footprint, and can be calculated for the entire province or a specific area where human footprint data are available. This dataset provides values for all Hydrologic Unit Code 8 (HUC 8) watersheds in Alberta for 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018. The distance at which an area was considered interior habitat was estimated using rounded buffers from the edges of the wall-to-wall Human Footprint Inventories produced by the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI).

Description

The Historical Municipal Landfills dataset is a spatial representation of the locations of historic landfills in the province of Alberta. The data was originally captured in a 1982 survey conducted by MacLaren Plansearch Lavalin where counties within Alberta were asked to identify the quarter section that landfills were located in. MacLaren ranked the results of the survey categorizing landfill locations based on their potential risk for environmental and human health impacts. In 1985 Associated Engineering did an evaluation of a selection of sites which MacLaren had ranked as having the greatest potential risk and identified them on hardcopy aerial photographs. A subset of the remaining landfills in the MacLaren report were located on historic aerial photographs as part of an Alberta Environment and Protected Areas project where the footprint of the landfill was digitized. The data in this information product illustrates the boundaries of Alberta's 87 Provincial Electoral Divisions. Electoral Boundaries are defined by the Alberta Election Act, Chapter E-1, 2018. Provincial Electoral Divisions (PEDs) are territorial units represented by an elected Member to serve in the Alberta Provincial Legislative Assembly. The Provincial Electoral Divisions used in this information product were enacted in December 2017 and came into effect for the 2019 provincial general election.

Mountain Goat and Sheep Ranges were determined from both observations (telemetry and aerial sheep/goat surveys) and habitat suitability indexes. Goat and sheep ranges have been buffered by 800m to derive zones. Range delineation encompasses use during all seasons.To identify goat and sheep ranges in an effort to: a) avoid land use disturbances that may have a direct or indirect adverse effect on the behavior of the animals, and b) avoid permanent alteration of physical habitat conditions. An area south of Grande Prairie was added to the layer in November 2022.
