The NADC Area dataset is a polygon that represents the designated area of the Northern Alberta Development Council. a council established on March 29, 1963 by an Act of the Legislative Assembly of Alberta. The Council is mandated 'to investigate, monitor, evaluate, plan and promote practical measures to foster and advance general development in northern Alberta and to advise to Government accordingly' (Northern Alberta Development Council Act, 2000)

Description

The Wetland Inventory Pilot project is part of ongoing efforts to develop innovative wetland mapping methodologies across Alberta, Canada with the objective to refine and establish wetland inventory mapping methodologies using advanced Earth Observation (EO) imagery and machine learning (ML) techniques. Wetland Inventory was developed for four pilot study areas within Alberta for the Boreal 1: South Hay-Zama Lake (7,613 km2), Boreal 2: North Slave Lake (21,215 km2), Grassland located east of Brooks (5,065 km2) and Parkland located east of Red Deer (5,170 km2). These areas were selected to represent the broad diversity of wetlands and land-uses in the province. The Boreal study areas utilized EO sources from Sentinel-1, and Sentinel-2 satellite imagery, Advanced Land Observing Satellite (ALOS) Digital Elevation Model (DEM) and high-resolution airborne Light Detection and Ranging (LiDAR. A Crown land reservation is a tool under Section 18(c) of the Public Lands Act, to identify a management intent that will inform and provide direction to potential land users and regulatory bodies as authorized under the Public Lands Act. A reservation is not a disposition, does not grant any rights to public land or rights to access or occupy public land or rights to the resources on the land or under it. The Crown Land Reservations dataset displays reservations under application or active with their associated data attributes allowing users to view and access existing or proposed reservation information that could influence their application if a proposed activity intersects. The Riparian Areas Assessment of the Swan River Watershed focused on assessing riparian habitat along creek, stream and river shorelines. This dataset was created for the Lesser Slave Water Council as a part of a large scale riparian area assessment in Alberta. The overall goal of this project was to quantify and characterize the riparian habitat management in the Lesser Slave Lake watershed by assessing riparian areas along approximately 582 km of shoreline. The riparian areas that were assessed were located within the Swan River watershed (HUC 8) and included the left and right banks of the Swan, Moosehorn and Inverness Rivers. This study created a recent land cover layer within 50 m of selected shorelines and use this layer to assess the intactness of riparian areas along major waterbodies. Flood maps are created by combining hydraulic model results for different sized floods with high-accuracy ground information. Flood maps identify where water will flow during a flood, and what land could be flooded during different sized floods. Alberta Environment and Protected Areas developed an Interior habitat indicator for the province of Alberta. The indicator is the percentage area outside of a set distance from human footprint, and can be calculated for the entire province or a specific area where human footprint data are available. This dataset provides values for all Hydrologic Unit Code 8 (HUC 8) watersheds in Alberta for 2010, 2014, 2016 and 2018. The distance at which an area was considered interior habitat was estimated using rounded buffers from the edges of the wall-to-wall Human Footprint Inventories produced by the Alberta Biodiversity Monitoring Institute (ABMI).
